As you climb the great mountain on your epic journey through life, always move forward on your path through obstacles and fears. Listen to your calling. The glory sun is waiting. This is the Hero’s Journey and the inspiration behind the music of IASONAS.
Born of Greek and Serbian origins, IASONAS (Ya-sohn-ahs) is a composer, arranger and performer from Montreal, Quebec who currently plays piano, accordion and bouzouki.
On his album “King Leonidas”, he presents a powerful blend of sounds, melodies and instruments of the Balkans, of classical orchestral arrangements and of epic storytelling inspired by the heroic symbols of Greek and Balkan mythology.
In 2016, he completed a master’s degree in Instrumental Musical Composition at Université de Montréal where he studied under the direction of Juno award-winning composer, Denis Gougeon.
In October 2018, he released his debut, self-produced album King Leonidas that recorded 26 musicians including choir, strings, brass and many other traditional instruments from the Balkans. The album tells the story of a young boy named Leonidas, who leaves the comfort of his home to answer the call of adventure to become the king of his own life.
He is currently working on a music video to be presented in September of 2018 in Montreal and a graphic novel inspired by the tale depicted on the album.
