KING LEONIDAS is a fusion of orchestral arrangements, traditional Balkan music, and hip hop/slam storytelling. A collection of 9 original compositions crafted to inspire inner strength and to awaken the human spirit.
From beginning to end, the album tells one continuous story of a young boy named Leonidas, who leaves the comfort of his home to answer the call of adventure. Through adversity, challenges and loss, he learns to become the master of his own life: King Leonidas. This classic story of the “Hero’s journey” is inspired by the heroic symbols of Balkan mythology and will also be depicted in a Graphic-Novel that will serve as a visual accompaniment to the music.
The album features live recordings of 26 musicians for: Choir, bouzouki, baglamas, accordion, kanun, kaval, organ, piano, harp, violin, alto, cello, upright bass, trumpet, trombone, tuba, drums, rik, darbuka, bongos, vibraphone and voice. The album also features guest appearance Montreal composer/musician, Socalled.
KING LEONIDAS is also available as an INSTRUMENTAL version, offering another sonic experience to the listener.

Born of Greek and Serbian origins, IASONAS (Ya-sohn-ahs) is a composer, arranger and performer from Montreal, Quebec who currently plays piano, accordion and bouzouki.
On his album “King Leonidas”, he presents a powerful blend of sounds, melodies and instruments of the Balkans, of classical orchestral arrangements and of epic storytelling inspired by the heroic symbols of Greek and Balkan mythology.
In 2016, he completed a master’s degree in Instrumental Musical Composition at Université de Montréal where he studied under the direction of Juno award-winning composer, Denis Gougeon.
In October 2018, he released his debut, self-produced album King Leonidas that recorded 26 musicians including choir, strings, brass and many other traditional instruments from the Balkans. The album tells the story of a young boy named Leonidas, who leaves the comfort of his home to answer the call of adventure to become the king of his own life.
He is currently working on a music video to be presented in September of 2018 in Montreal and a graphic novel inspired by the tale depicted on the album.
